Subject: International Cities of Peace Benefits Date: Fri, 15 Nov 2019 08:19:57 -0500 From: arment <arment@fredarment.com> To: adipop@popservice.ro
Thank you, Adrian Pop!
Your work in Romania and beyond is very inspiring. A second Peace Day is an interesting idea and very innovative in our efforts to have 365 days of peace. However, our organization has one offering — the creation of a network of Cities of Peace, for which we now have over 260 in 57 countries. Our network does celebrate Peace Day in September and our Facebook page is very dynamic for posting ideas and initiatives such as the June 1st Day of the Child.
I have a question: Perhaps you would like to be the leader of a City of Peace effort in your town — maybe Sarmizegetusa Regia or the town in which you live. You could promote your work and the ideas about the Day of the Child and 365 days of peace.
The benefits are as follows:
Twelve benefits to starting an International City of Peace initiative
- Information: resources and links to “how to” materials
- Affirmation: membership in a global association
- Connections: alliances with important organizations
- Legitimacy: a higher profile in the worldwide community
- Education: access to exhibits and teaching tools
- Funding Options: links to funders and recommendations
- Online Learning: video and hard-copy documents
- Online Presence: free website page for your peace team
- Public Relations: free news release through blog post
- Community: receive and be featured in newsletters
- Database: access to ICP database for connections
- U.N. Representation: ICP has Special Consultative Status with Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC)
I hope you are interested in establishing your community as a city of peace. I look forward to working with you and your colleagues in your area. International Cities of Peace is a platform for active engagement to increase the safety, prosperity and quality of life (the consensus values of peace) for all citizens. This unity approach has been valuable in cities around the globe. Your community will make an excellent city of peace!
The Letter of Intent is the first step and the process is detailed below.
Each community has a legacy of peace and your work will contribute to the safety, prosperity and quality of life for all citizens. This year we are approaching nearly 300 cities of peace in over 50 countries on six continents.
We will help you in the process. Please send me an email and let me know about your peace building activities and a little history of your city. The first step is the Letter of Intent (which should identify the community, a city, or part of a city that is already a city of peace). Below are details:
International Cities of Peace™ is a nonprofit, tax-exempt association dedicated to connecting, promoting, and encouraging the global cities of peace movement. An Advisory Council of leaders from global Cities of Peace organizations is working to create an all-inclusive, non-polarizing network of world citizens working to bring peace to their communities. We have cities in South America, North America, Asia, Africa, Oceania, and Europe.

To create an initiative is very simple and costs no money. You can emphasize the work you are currently doing, or create a new organization for community peace building. We believe that each community has a legacy of peace that can be highlighted, especially in terms of giving hope and encouragement to children and adults alike.
One person, perhaps you, will be included on our Leadership Council. We will make the announcement about your initiative when the following are received:
1. Letter of Intent with signatures (print, get signatures, and scan to return)
2. A vision, mission, and goals statement (as detailed as possible)
3. Photos and captions of local events, locations, or historical events (only photos you shoot or in the public domain)
4. A photo for you as the leader of the group (if you would like to write a bio, please do)
5. If possible, a statement about the peace legacy of your community (advances in peace, health, education, history, etc.)
I have included a "Letter of Intent" pdf as well as a "Becoming a City of Peace" for your review. Each city is unique and you do not need to go by our suggestions. The UNESCO Culture of Peace resolution and tenets are included only as a guideline. You can create your own Letter of Intent or use ours. At least two signatures are required, but the more people in your initiative the better.
Here are the web pages for other cities of peace to use as examples of what yours will look like: http://www.internationalcitiesofpeace.org/cities/cities.html
We are not a funding organization but individual cities of peace have the option of working with other cities through our Global Family Program. Please do not assume you will be funded by our central organization.
We look forward to receiving your Letter of Intent to start the process! We will work with you to complete the webpage.
Sincerely and with respect for your work,
J. Fred Arment
