Breeding Basics
This animal looks like a fat chipmunk. It is clean, odourless and needs a little work to do ( an 50-mother-farm needs 2 hours daily). They can be kept in any closeable, dry and heatable rooms. Rooms like cellars, garages, barns etc. Are ideal. The work is going almost automatically in the three level cages. We put 5 animals / m2. Good to start with standard colours.
We put chinchillas into „family" at 8 months age. One male has four females. Each female has her own cage and the male can move between the cages in the so called „male-corridor". The females have a collar so they cannot get out to the corridor from their cages. The method called polygamy breeding system. The females are delivering the babies within 111 days and they give birth to 1-4 bunnies. The babies are open eyed and they are able to eat at a few days of age. They get separated from their mother when they around 7-8 weeks old and placed into new cages - first two into a cage, than after four months of age one per a cage.
When they are 8 months old they are ready for breeding or skinning. The breeder has to decide whoever to keep or use the fur.
Daily work consists of feeding (chinchilla food and hay), watering and bathing. They get 3 dkgs of dry food into the self feeders (an adult chinchilla needs approximately 1 kg of chinchilla food/month!) and 2 dkgs hay to the hay-folder. They get water via self-watering system. Chinchillas use sand bath to keep their fur clean, they roll into 1 dkg bathing sand given daily. The cages need cleaning once a month when the clingfilm beneath the cages is changed.
Breeding work:
The breeeding animals are originated from the Wanger Farm in Komarom. The farm has 6000 mother and with the breeding past since 1978 they are the biggest chinchille stud breeder in the world.
All chinchillas are ear tattooed, qualificated by the State and have pedigrees - as enacted by the Law of Animal Husbandry. The animals go for a standard juding when they are 8 months old and only the qualified chinchillas can be used for breeding or sale.
Controlling the breeding program and planning it we use computer technology.

Fiecare animal va avea o cusca proprie din sarma (asemanatoare custilor pentru pasari) cu dimensiuni minime 40x40x50 cm. Este recomandabil ca partea de jos sa fie acoperita cu talaj, din lemn de rasinoase. Talajul va fi shimbat saptamanal, astfel incit sa asiguram chinchillei un loc curat. Chinchillele se bucara sa aiba un loc unde sa se poata ascunde si sa se simta in siguranta atunci cind sunt speriate.
Hrana utilizata este preferabil sa fie formata din concentrate, care contin aportul optim de vitamine si minerale. Concentratele se gasesc in magazinele de specialitate, contin cereale in cea mai mare parte, pot consuma aproximativ 25-30 g/zi, iar pretul lor este foarte mic. Este recomandabil ca, cel putin de doua ori pe saptamana, sa primeasca o mana de fan (foarte apreciata, in special lucerna), care ajuta la tocirea incisivilor. In cazul in care sunt hranite cu mancare cu care nu au fost obisnuite, este bine ca trecerea sa se faca treptat pentru a evita o indigestie. Chinchila necesita apa proaspata cel putin la doua zile, care este recomandabil sa fie administrata dintr-o sticla cu apa atasata custii. Apa trebuie sa fie fiarta sau sa stea un timp (12-24 h),pentru elimanarea clorului.Daca sta mai mult de doua zile neschimbata, bacteriile care se dezvolta pot fi daunatoare chinchilei. Nu sunt recomandabile obiecte de plastic pentru hranire, apa sau joaca, intrucat e posibil sa le roada, ceea ce le poate cauza neplaceri.
Pentru mentinerea unei blani curate, stralucitoare, elastice, este necesar sa-i oferim animalului posibilitatea de a face baie in nisip. Nisipul este special, comparabil cu cel al zonelor de unde provin, fiind foarte ieftin. Baia se face seara, odata cu administrarea hranei, a apei si curatarea adapostului. Pe placa special prevezuta se pun in fiecare seara 2-5 g nisip, suficient pentru indepartarea sebunului in exces si mentinerea in bune conditi a blanii.
Este recomandabil sa aveti un pui de 2-4 luni, decat un adult. Puiul va creste si se va obisnui cu persoana respectiva. Un animal adult, devine bland si sociabil uneori dupa luni de zile, necesitind multa dragoste si rabdare. Pentru o chinchilla crescuta pana la varsta adulta, fara contact permanent cu omul, e nevoie de cistigarea increderii acesteia, pentru a reusi o apropiere. Puiul insa este foarte sociabil si poate fi obisnuit de mic cu crescatorul, cu locuinta acestuia. Este de preferat ca atunci cind chinchilla vine linga tine sau se catara pe umarul tau, sa atingi usor animalul, pentru ca acestuia sa nu-i mai fie frica de tine. Odata ce unei chinchile ii este frica de om, va trebui sa treaca mult timp pentru a dobindi increderea acestuia. Chinchila se prinde de o ureche si apoi de coada, sprijinind-o cu corpul pe celalalt brat. Daca o prinzi de corp,si nu este obisnuita, ii va fi frica pentru ca se simte strinsa. Chinchilla poate fi tinuta si pe palma sau pe ambele palme tinute alaturat. Incercati sa tineti animalul cit mai aproape de corp, pentru ca atunci animalul se simte in siguranta. Cind chinchilei ii este frica apropiati corpul acesteia de al dvs. si acoperiti-i fata cu minile.Se va simti in siguranta atunci cind nu poate vedea.
Femela în călduri stă în poziţie de împerechere, devine agitată, expulzează un dop de secreţii care în contact cu aerul se întăreşte.
