Locuinţa a fost construită în Banat de arhitecta Ileana Mavrodin, membră în proiectul "Casa Verde". Potrivit site-ului naturalhomes.org (http://naturalhomes.org/cobhouses.htm), Ileana Mavrodin foloseşte materiale naturale din România pentru a-i ajuta pe oameni să redescopere meşteşugurile locale şi spiritul de comuniune cu natura.
Potrivit site-ului casa-verde.ro (http://www.casa-verde.ro/), acest proiect ecologic promovează "o arhitectură prietenoasă, mai blândă şi, totodată, ecologică şi într-un mod de viaţă sănătos, apropiat de natură şi cu respect faţă de mediul înconjurător".
Casa este amplasată pe malul drept al Nerei, în apropiere de satul Sasca Română. "Cob-ul" este un amestec de pământ lutos, apă, paie şi nisip, iar construcţiile din acest material sunt realizate fără cofraje, cărămizi şi substanţe chimice, informează site-ul casa-verde.ro. Deşi este asemănător cu paianta din punct de vedere al compoziţiei, "cob-ul" se deosebeşte de aceasta prin: faptul că se frământă până ajunge la consistenţa aluatului de pâine; nu se folosesc cofraje pentru realizarea construcţiei; formele organice îi conferă o rezistenţă de excepţie la seisme sau şocuri de altă natură; se modelează cu mâna, fiecare construcţie fiind unică şi irepetabilă, reflectând personalitatea şi dispoziţia de moment a modelatorului.
În topul 10 al celor mai reuşite case "cob" din lume au mai fost incluse construcţii din Canada, Marea Britanie, Statele Unite, Ucraina, şi Africa de Sud.
