Despre

Proiectul Venus este o organizaţie care propune un posibil plan de acţiune pentru schimbarea socială promovând o civilizație pașnică și durabilă. Se conturează o alternativă în a depune eforturi pentru respectarea drepturilor omului, drepturi care nu sunt doar proclamaţii pe hârtie, ci un mod de viaţă.
Funcționăm într-un Centru De Cercetare cu o suprafață de 21,5 acri (aproximativ 8,7 ha), situat în Venus, Florida.

Luând în considerare enormitatea de provocări cu care se confruntă societatea de azi, putem concluziona ferm că de prea mult timp se aşteaptă ca noi să ne reexaminăm valorile, să reflectăm și să evaluăm unele din ideile de bază și presupunerile pe care le avem ca societate. Această auto-analiză conduce către următoarele întrebări naturale: ce înseamnă a fi om? ce înseamnă a fi membru al unei "civilizații"? ce alegeri putem face azi pentru a asigura un viitor prosper pentru toţi oamenii din lume?

În prezent ne-au rămas foarte puţine alternative. Răspunsurile de ieri nu mai sunt relevante. Fie vom continua așa cum suntem acum, cu societatea şi modul de gândire demodate și cenzurate, caz în care viitorul nostru va fi ameninţat sau putem aplica un set mai adecvat de valori care sunt relevante pentru o societate în ascensiune.

Experiența ne spune că poate fi modificat comportamentul uman, fie spre o activitate constructivă fie spre una distructivă. Dorită acestui aspect există Proiectul Venus - canalizarea tehnologiei şi a resurselor noastre spre scopuri pozitive, pentru beneficii maxime pentru oameni şi pentru planetă şi căutarea de noi modalităţi de gândire şi de viaţă, care scot în evidență și glorifică marele potenţial al spiritului uman. Avem instrumentele necesare la îndemână pentru a proiecta - și pentru a construi - un viitor care este demn de potenţialul uman. Proiectul Venus reprezintă ceva îndrăzneţ, o nouă direcție pentru umanitate, care presupune nici mai mult nici mai puțin decât o totală regândire a culturii noastre. Ce urmează nu este o încercare de a anticipa ce se va face - doar ceea ce se poate realiza acum. Responsabilitatea pentru viitorul nostru se găsește în mâinile noastre şi depinde de deciziile pe care le luăm astăzi. Cea mai mare resursă care este disponibilă în prezent este propria noastră ingeniozitate.

În timp ce reformatorii sociali şi grupurile de reflecţie formulează strategii care tratează doar simptomele superficial, fără să atingă operațiile sociale de bază, Proiectul Venus abordează aceste probleme oarecum diferit. Simţim că nu putem elimina aceste probleme în cadrul sistemului politic şi monetar actual. Ar lua prea mulţi ani pentru a realiza orice schimbare semnificativă. Cel mai probabil, acestea ar fi mușamalizate într-o măsură în care aceste modificări ar fi imperceptibile.

Proiectul Venus pledează o viziune alternativă pentru o nouă civilizaţie mondială durabilă, spre deosebire de orice sistem social anterior. Deşi această descriere este foarte condensată, este bazată pe ani de studiu şi cercetare experimentală de către multe, multe persoane din mai multe discipline ştiinţifice.

Proiectul Venus propune o nouă abordare - una care este dedicată preocupărilor umane şi de mediu. Este o viziune tangibilă a unui viitor stralucitor şi mai bun, una care este mai apropiată vremurilor în care trăim, atât practică cât şi fezabilă pentru un viitor pozitiv pentru toată populaţia lumii.

De-a lungul istoriei, schimbările s-au produs lent. Grupuri succesive de lideri incompetenți au înlocuit pe cele precedente, dar cele care stau la baza problemelor sociale şi economice rămân, pentru că baza sistemelelor de valori a rămas nemodificată. Problemele cu care ne confruntăm noi astăzi nu pot fi rezolvate politic sau financiar, deoarece acestea sunt de natură tehnică. S-ar putea nici să nu existe suficienți bani pentru a plăti schimbările necesare, dar există mai mult decât suficiente resurse. Acesta este motivul pentru care Proiectul Venus pledează pentru tranziţia de la o societate bazată pe bani către eventuala realizare a unei economii globale, bazată pe resurse.

Suntem conştienţi de faptul că pentru a face trecerea de la cultura noastră actuală, care este politic incompetentă, orientată spre deficit și învechită, către această societate nouă, mai umană, va fi necesar un salt uriaș atât în modul de gândire cât şi în cel de acţiune.
Un Sistem Monetar Învechit Toate sistemele economice ale lumii - socialism, comunism, fascism chiar şi lăudatul sistem de afaceri libere - perpetuează stratificarea socială, elitismul, naţionalismul și rasismul în primul rând, pe baza decalajului economic. Atâta timp cât un sistem social foloseşte banii sau schimbul economic, oamenii şi naţiunile vor încerca să-și menţină avantajele economice competitive sau în cazul în care acestea nu pot face acest lucru prin mijloace comerciale o vor face cu ajutorul intervenţie militare. Noi încă utilizăm aceste metode demodate.

Actualul nostru sistem monetar nu este capabil pentru a asigura un nivel înalt de trai pentru toată lumea şi nici nu poate asigura protecţia mediului înconjurător deoarece motivul major este profitul. Strategii cum ar fi reducerea costurilor şi deversările toxice cresc marja de profit. Odată cu apariţia automaticii, ciberneticii, a inteligenţei artificiale şi a externalizării serviciilor, va exista o tot mai mare înlocuire a oamenilor de către maşinării. Ca urmare, mai puţine persoane vor avea posibilitatea de a achiziţiona bunuri şi servicii, chiar dacă capacitatea noastră de a produce din abundență va continua să existe.

Sistemele noastre politice și economice actuale, sunt demodate și nu sunt în măsură să aplice beneficii reale tehnologiei inovatoare din zilele actuale pentru ca toate persoanele să se bucure de ele şi pentru a depăşi inechităţile impuse care sunt atât de multe. Tehnologia noastră aleargă înainte dar modelele noastre sociale au rămas relativ statice. Cu alte cuvinte, schimbările culturale nu au ţinut pasul cu schimbările tehnologice. În prezent avem mijloace pentru a produce bunuri şi servicii din abundență pentru toată lumea.

Din păcate, astăzi ştiinţa şi tehnologia au fost deturnate de la scopul de a face bine, din motive de a obține interese personale şi monetare prin demodarea planificată și chiar uneori retragerea conștientă a eficienței. De exemplu, Departamentul de Agricultură al Statelor Unite, a cărui scop presupus este de a efectua cercetări pentru a găsi căi de a realiza un mai mare randament al recoltelor pe acru (1 acru = 0,4047 ha), plătește fermierilor pentru a nu produce la capacitate deplină. Sistemul monetar tinde să frâneze aplicarea metodelor care știm că ar servi cel mai bine intereselor persoanelor şi ale mediului.

Într-un sistem monetar puterea de cumpărare nu este legată de capacitatea noastră de a produce bunuri şi servicii. De exemplu, în timpul unei crize, există computere şi DVD-uri pe rafturile din magazin şi automobile în loturile de maşini, dar cei mai mulţi oameni nu au puterea de cumpărare pentru a le cumpăra. Pământul se află în acelaşi loc; sunt doar regulile jocului care sunt învechite şi creează dispute, lipsuri şi suferinţă umană inutilă.

Un sistem monetar dezvoltat cu ani în urmă ca un dispozitiv de control al comportamentului uman într-un mediu cu resurse limitate. Azi, bani sunt utilizați pentru a reglementa economia nu în beneficiul general al populaţiei, ci pentru cei care controlează bogăţia financiară a naţiunilor.
Economia Bazată pe Resurse Toate sistemele sociale, indiferent de filosofia politică, credințe religioase sau obiceiuri sociale, în cele din urmă depind de resursele naturale, de exemplu aer curat şi apă, teren arabil, tehnologia și personalul necesar pentru a menţine un standard ridicat de trai.

Formulat mai simplu, o economie bazată pe resurse utilizează resursele existente, mai degrabă decât banii şi oferă o metodă de repartizare echitabilă a acestor resurse în modul cel mai eficient pentru întreaga populaţie. Acesta este un sistem în care toate bunurile şi serviciile sunt disponibile, fără a utiliza bani, credite, barter, sau orice altă formă de datorii sau aservire.

Pământul este bogat în resurse abundente; azi practica noastră de raţionare a resurselor prin metode monetare este irelevantă şi contra productivă pentru supraviețuirea noastră. Societatea modernă are acces la tehnologii extrem de avansate si poate pune la dispoziţie alimente, îmbrăcăminte, locuinţe, îngrijire medicală, un sistem de învăţământ relevant, dezvoltă o sursă nelimitată de energii regenerabile, ne-contaminante, cum ar fi energia geotermală, solară, eoliană, a mareelor, etc. Acum este posibil ca toată lumea să se bucure de un foarte înalt standard de viaţă, cu toate facilităţile pe care le poate oferi o civilizaţie prosperă. Aceasta poate fi realizată prin aplicarea inteligentă şi umană a ştiinţei şi tehnologiei.

Pentru a înţelege mai bine sensul unei economii bazate pe resurse luați în calcul acest lucru: dacă toţi banii din lume ar fi distruși, atâta timp cât solul fertil, fabricile, şi alte resurse ar fi lăsate intacte, am putea construi orice alegem să construim şi să îndeplim orice nevoie umană. Nu banii sunt ceea ce oamenii au nevoie; ci mai degrabă accesul liber la necesitățile de viaţă. Într-o economie bazată pe resurse, bani ar fi irelevanți. Toate ce ar fi necesare sunt resursele, fabricaţia şi distribuţia produselor.

Când educaţia şi resursele sunt puse la dispoziţia tuturor persoanelor fără un preţ, nu va mai exista nicio limită a potenţialului uman. Deşi este greu de imaginat, chiar şi celor mai bogate persoane de azi le-ar fi mult mai bine într-o societate bazată pe resurse așa cum este propusă de Proiectul Venus. Astăzi, clasele de mijloc ar trăi mai bine decât regii de odinioară. Într-o economie bazată pe resurse toată lumea va trăi mai bine decât cei mai bogați de azi.

Într-o astfel de societate, măsura succesului se va baza pe împlinirea preocupărilor individuale decât pe achiziţionarea de avere, proprietăți şi putere.
Alegerea O Facem Noi Comportamentul uman este supus aceloraşi legi ca orice alt fenomen natural. Obiceiurile noastre, comportamentele şi valorile sunt subproduse ale culturii noastre. Nimeni nu se naște cu sentimente de lăcomie, prejudecăți, habotnicie, patriotism şi ură; toate acestea sunt modele de comportament învățate. Dacă anturajul este neschimbat, comportamente similare vor reapărea.

Astăzi, există o mare parte din tehnologia necesară pentru a aduce o Economie Bazată pe Resurse globală. Dacă vom alege să ne conformăm cu limitările actualei noastre economii monetare, atunci este probabil că vom continua să trăim cu inevitabilele ei rezultate: război, sărăcie, foamete, lipsuri, crimă, ignoranţă, stres, teamă şi nedreptate. Pe de altă parte, dacă vom accepta conceptul unei economii bazată pe resurse, dacă vom învăța mai multe despre aceasta şi partajăm gândirea noastră cu prietenii noştri, asta va ajuta omenirea să evolueze din starea socială prezentă.Singurele limite sunt cele care ni le impunem noi înşine.

Obiective și propuneri

Este comun în mass-media noastră să citești şi să auzi comentatori care vorbesc despre numărul de probleme sociale cu care ne confruntăm astăzi, cum ar fi încălzirea globală, distrugerea mediului Pământului, şomajul, criminalitatea, violenţa, sărăcia, foametea şi explozia demografică. Totuşi, cât de des am auzit de planuri executabile pentru atenuarea multora dintre aceste probleme sociale? Este relativ simplu pentru oameni să critice societatea, cu toate acestea este mult mai dificil să se identifice şi să pună în aplicare planuri pentru a rezolva problemele. Proiectul Venus este un adevarăt tipar pentru geneza unei noi civilizații mondiale, una care este bazată pe interesul omenesc şi recuperarea mediului.

Planurile pentru Proiectul Venus oferă societăţii un spectru larg de alegeri bazate pe posibilitățile ştiinţifice direcţionate către o eră nouă de pace şi durabilitate pentru toţi. Prin implementarea unei economii bazate pe resurse și a multitudinii de tehnologii inovatoare şi ecologice aplicate direct sistemului social, propunerile Proiectului Venus vor reduce dramatic criminalitatea, sărăcia, foametea, lipsa adăposturilor şi multe alte probleme presante, care sunt comune astăzi pe întregul mapamond.

Unul dintre elementele-cheie ale constatărilor organizației este faptul că multe dintre comportamentele disfuncționale ale societății de azi provin direct de la dezumanizarea mediului de către sistemul monetar. În plus, automatizarea a dus la înlocuirea muncii omului de către maşini în procesul tehnologic şi s-a dovedit că cei mai mulţi oameni nu vor avea puterea de cumpărare pentru a-și achiziționa bunuri şi servicii.

Proiectul Venus propune un sistem social, în care tehnologia și automatizarea vor fi integrate inteligent în ansamblul social, unde principală funcţie ar fi maximizarea calității vieţii și nu a profiturilor. De asemenea, acest proiect introduce și un set de valori funcţionale şi practice.

Acest lucru este într-o armonie perfectă cu aspectele spirituale și idealurile găsite în cele mai multe religii din întreaga lume. Ce țintește Proiectul Venus în plus, este faptul că îşi propune să transpună aceste idealuri într-o realitate funcțională.
PRIMA ETAPĂ Prima fază a planurilor pe termen lung a Proiectului Venus este deja în curs de desfăşurare. Materiale video, broșuri şi o recent publicată carte, "The Best That Money Can't Buy: Beyond Politics, Poverty, and War" (Cel mai bun lucru pe care banii nu îl pot cumpăra: dincolo de politică, sărăcie şi război), au fost create pentru a ajuta la creșterea conștientizării publicului față de acest proiect şi multele lui propuneri.


ETAPA A DOUA Faza a doua cuprinde producţia unui film de lung metraj, care va descrie modul în care ar funcționa o lume care a adoptat propunerile avansate de Proiectul Venus. Acest film o să furnizeze o viziune pozitivă a unei societăți paşnice în care toate ființele umane formează o familie globală pe planeta Pământ. Planurile pentru cea mai mare parte a tehnologiilor iniţiale şi a clădirilor au început deja. Eforturile pentru strângerea de fonduri se află in curs de desfășurare pentru sprijinirea construirii a acestui prim oraș experimental. Acest nou oraș experimental de cercetare va fi devotat către scopurile şi obiectivele Proiectului Venus, care sunt:

01. Realizarea declarației cu privire la resursele lumii ca fiind moştenire comună a tuturor oamenilor.

02.Depășirea granițelor artificiale care în prezent şi în mod arbitrar separă oamenii.

03.Înlocuirea economiei nationaliste bazată pe bani cu o economie mondială bazată pe resurse.

04.Acordarea asistenţei pentru stabilizarea populaţiei lumii prin educaţie şi control voluntar al naşterilor.

05.Revendicarea şi refacerea mediului natural ca fiind cea mai bună aptitudine a noastră.

06.Reproiectarea oraşelor, a sistemelor de transport, a industriilor agricole şi instalațiilor industriale astfel încât acestestea să fie eficiente energetic, nepoluante și capabile de a servi convenabil nevoile tuturor oamenilor.

07.Treptat, diminuarea rolului entităților corporative și guvernelor (locale, naţionale sau multinaţionale), ca mijloace de gestionare socială.

08.Distribuirea şi aplicarea noilor tehnologii pentru beneficiul tuturor naţiunilor.

09.Dezvoltarea şi utilizarea surselor nepoluante de energie regenerabilă.

10.Fabricarea produselor la cel mai înalt standard de calitate pentru beneficiul tuturor oamenilor din lume.

11.Solicitarea studiilor de impact asupra mediului, înaintea construirii oricăror mega proiecte.

12.Încurajarea creativității de orice fel și stimularea eforturilor constructive.

13.Diminuarea până la dispariție a naționalismului, habotniciei și a prejudecăților prin educație

14.Eliminarea elitismului tehnic sau de altă natură.

15.Determinarea metodologiilor prin cercetare atentă nu prin opinii aleatoare.

16.Sporirea comunicării în școli astfel încât limbajul nostru să fie relevant condițiilor lumii fizice.

17.Nu doar asigurarea necesităților de viaţă, dar şi oferirea de provocări care stimulează mintea, evidenţiind în acelaşi timp individualitatea și nu uniformitatea.

18.În cele din urmă, pregătirea oamenilor din punct de vedere intelectual şi emotional pentru schimbările şi provocările care îi așteaptă.


ETAPA A PATRA După ce orașul experimental de cercetare este construit, un parc de atracții este de asemenea planificat, care va găzdui și informa vizitatorii cu privire la posibilităţile stilurilor de viață ale oamenilor şi de protecţie a mediului planificate de Proiectul Venus. Acesta va cuprinde case inteligente, de înaltă eficienţă; sisteme de transport nepoluante; tehnologie informatică avansată; precum şi o serie de alte inovaţii care pot adăuga valoare vieţii tuturor oamenilor - într-un timp foarte scurt.

De fapt, nimeni nu poate prezice viitorul. Putem doar extrapola pe informaţiile şi tendinţele actuale. Creşterea populaţiei, schimbările tehnologice, condiţiile de mediu din întreaga lume şi resursele disponibile sunt principalele criterii pentru proiecțiile viitoare.

Nu există o singură filozofie sau punct de vedere, fie el religios, politic, ştiinţific sau ideologic, cu care cineva să nu aibă discordanțe. Suntem siguri, însă, că singurele aspecte ale Proiectului Venus, care pot părea amenințătoare sunt cele pe care alţii le fac așa.

Proiectul Venus nu este nici utopic, nici Orwellian, nici nu reflectă visele unor idealiști nepractici. În schimb, atingerea obiectivelor sale prezente necesită doar inteligenta aplicare a ceea ce deja ştim. Singurele limite sunt cele pe care ni le impunem noi înşine.

Centrul de Cercetare

Dincolo de Viziune http://www.proiectulvenus.ro/images/stories/photovig/sml/research2.jpg Multe din ideile de pe acest site sunt puse în realitate ACUM. Prima fază a Proiectului Venus este centrul de cercetări de 25 acrii (aproximativ 8,7 ha), situat într-o zona încă nepoluată a Floridei de centru-sud, unde viitorul deja se conturează. Clădirile actuale și centrul de conferințe sunt completate de modele, ilustraţii, planuri, postere, cărţi şi prezentări video. Aceștia sunt primii pași care au fost făcuți pentru a vă ajuta să vedeți, să simţiți şi să atingeți viitorul.

De ce primele clădiri concepute pentru Proiectul Venus sunt în formă de cupolă? Cupola necesită cele mai puține materiale pentru a anexa o anumită zonă. Aceasta oferă uşurinţă în procesul de fabricare şi de prefabricare. Este forma cu rezistența și stabilitatea maximă. Când este corect proiectată și construită poate rezista la o solicitare eoliană extrem de mare şi este rezistentă la cutremure, termite, rozătoare şi la foc. În plus, fiind construită din beton, ne conservăm pădurile.

Suntem conștienți că limba engleză nu reprezintă o a doua limbă vorbită pentru mulți români. De aceea, ne-am propus să traducem cât mai exact informațiile prezentate pe The Venus Project (http://www.thevenusproject.com), astfel încât conceptele și mesajele transmise de acest organism social, să fie înțelese de un număr cât mai mare de oameni.

Întâlniri
Pentru punerea în practică a ideilor și conceptelor pe care Proiectul Venus le-a lansat prin mișcarea Zeitgeist cât și găsirea de noi soluții pentru obținerea de energii alternative și tehnologii care ne ușurează viața, având ca scop final eliberarea tuturor locuitorilor planetei de monopolul marilor furnizori de energie electrică și termică, ne strângem periodic pentru a schimba idei sau a ne prezenta realizările. The overall scope of The Venus Project is quite comprehensive, and often presents values that challenge popular views. We still suggest that everyone should read our books and listen to our DVD's to learn more about this direction, but we have also come to realize that learning under the guidance of a Sociocyberneering Education Project educator is necessary for a more complete education process of The Venus Project. To help minimize projections (mistakenly assuming that TheVenus Project is something which it is not), it is necessary that people become much more intimately familiar with The Venus Project’s materials. Investing considerable time in individuals who will significantly contribute to the realization of the Aims and Proposals of The Venus Project is a priority that the Sociocyberneering Educational Project is striving for. The intention of the Sociocyberneering Educational Project is for ardent promoters of The Venus Project to gain a much stronger understanding of the many facets of this direction and will eventually adopt most of the ideas as their own as the primordial slime is “washed off.” After going through this process we predict that mentors will also be able to enhance the qualityand concentration of the delivery of information while ensuring its integrity. Participants will be learning under the supervision of an already existing educator.


The aim here is to develop independent mentors who will be working directly with The Venus Project in developing teams and activities in their local areas and, in turn, supervising others through the Sociocyberneering Educational Project. Applicants will go through a selection process to choose reliablepeople who will work on optimizing their efforts with respect to time, and will assist in providing an environment that encourages teamwork, consistency, and constant improvement by challenging current practices.


The average length of the course is approximately two years, with a strict five to 10 hours of direct involvement per week (varies from week to week).


It is increasingly evident that most systems that have been tried are no longer working and there is an urgent need to learn and introduce others to a unique, viable, alternative method of organizing society and distributing resources.

The Venus Project is the culmination of Jacque Fresco’s life’s work to present a sustainable redesign of our culture.
The project lays out a sustainable world civilization where technology and science are applied to redesigning our social system with the prime concern being to maximize quality of life rather than profit.


Since 1975, Roxanne Meadows has worked with renowned futurist Jacque Fresco to develop and promote The Venus Project. The function of this project is to find alternative solutions to the many problems that confront the world today. She participated in the exterior and interior design and construction of the buildings of The Venus Project’s 21-acre research and planning center.

Daniel Araya: Roxanne (https://www.thevenusproject.com/the-venus-project/roxanne-meadows/), could you tell me about your background and your vision for The Venus Project (https://www.thevenusproject.com/)? How was the idea originally conceived?

Credit: The Venus Project Roxanne Meadows: My background is in architectural and technical illustration, model making, and design. However, for the last 41 years, my most significant work has been with Jacque Fresco in developing models, books, blueprints, drawings, documentaries and lecturing worldwide. We are the co-founders of The Venus Project, based out of Venus, Florida where we have built a 21-acre experimental center. The Venus Project is the culmination of Jacque Fresco’s life’s work to present a sustainable redesign of our culture.
In our view, The Venus Project is unlike any political, economic or social system that’s gone before it. It lays out a sustainable world civilization where technology and the methods of science are applied to redesigning our social system with the prime concern being to maximize quality of life rather than profit. All aspects of society are scrutinized – from our values, education, and urban design to how we relate to nature and to one another.
The Venus Project concludes that our social and environmental problems will remain the same as long as the monetary system prevails and a few powerful nations and financial interests maintain control over and consume most of the world’s resources. In Jacque Fresco’s book The Best That Money Can’t Buy, he explains “If we really wish to put an end to our ongoing international and social problems, we must ultimately declare Earth and all of its resources as the common heritage of all of the world’s people. Anything less will result in the same catalogue of problems we have today.”
DA: One of the more interesting aspects of The Venus Project vision is its futuristic design (https://www.thevenusproject.com/resource-based-economy/human-factors/functional-design/). Have you been approached by companies or governments interested in using The Venus Project as a model? Do you foresee experiments in smart (https://futurism.com/smartcitiesinterview/) urban design that mirror Jacque Fresco’s (https://www.thevenusproject.com/the-venus-project/jacque-fresco/) thinking?
RM: No company or government, as yet, has approached The Venus Project to initiate a model of our city design, but we feel the greatest need is in using our designs to usher in a holistic socio-economic alternative, not just our architectural approach itself. As Jacque very often mentions, “Technology is just so much junk, unless it’s used to elevate all people.”
We would like to build the first circular city (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lVNZBHIXMlw) devoted to developing up-to-date global resource management, and a holistic method for social operation toward global unification. The city (https://www.thevenusproject.com/resource-based-economy/environment/circular-city/) would showcase this optimistic vision, allowing people to see firsthand what kind of future could be built if we were to mobilize science and technology for social betterment.
I have not seen what is called smart urban design mirror Jacque Fresco’s thinking. I see smart cities as mainly applying technology to existing and new but chaotically designed, energy- and resource-intensive cities without offering a comprehensive social direction or identifying the root causes of our current problems. Our technology is racing forward but our social designs are hundreds of years old. We can’t continue to design and maintain these resource- and energy-draining cities and ever consider being able to provide for the needs of all people to ensure that they have high-quality housing, food, medical care and education. Smart cities within a terribly dysfunctional social structure seem contradictory to me.
DA: My understanding is that technological automation forms the basis for The Venus Project. Given ongoing breakthroughs in artificial intelligence (https://futurism.com/interview-chris-eliasmith-talks-reverse-engineering-the-brain-dangerous-ai-and-universal-basic-income/) and robotics, do you imagine that we are moving closer to this vision?
RM: Our technological capacity to initiate The Venus Project is available now, but how we use artificial intelligence today is very often for destructive purposes through weaponry, surveillance, and the competitive edge for industry, often resulting in technological unemployment. In the society we are proposing, nothing is to be gained from these behaviors because there is no vested interest. In our project, we advocate concentrating on solving problems that threaten all of us— climate change, pollution, disease, hunger, war, territorial disputes, and the like. What The Venus Project offers is a method of updating the design of our society so that everyone can benefit from all the amenities that a highly advanced technologically-developed society can provide.
DA: I know The Venus Project is envisioned as a post-capitalist and post-scarcity economy. Could you explain what you mean by resource-based economics (https://www.thevenusproject.com/resource-based-economy/)?
RM: Money is an interference factor between what we want and what we are able to acquire. It limits our dreams and capabilities and our individual and societal possibilities. Today we don’t have enough money to house everyone on the planet, but we do still have enough resources to accomplish that and much more if we use our resources intelligently to conserve energy and reduce waste. This is why we advocate a Resource Based Economy (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_EkMjTnWk14). This socio-economic system provides an equitable distribution of resources in an efficient manner without the use of money, barter, credit or servitude of any kind. Goods and services are accessible to all, without charge. You could liken this to the public library where one might check out many books and then return them when they are finished. This can be done with anything that is not used on a daily basis. In a society where goods and services are made available to the entire population free of charge, ownership becomes a burden that is ultimately surpassed by a system of common property.
When we use our technology to produce abundance, goods become too cheap to monetize. There is only a price on things that are scarce. For instance, air is a necessity but we don’t monitor or charge for the amount of breaths we can take. Air is abundant. If apple trees grew everywhere and were abundant you couldn’t sell apples. If all the money disappeared, as long as we have the technical personnel, automated processes, topsoil, resources, factories and distribution we could still build and develop anything we need.
DA: I know that the scientific method (https://www.thevenusproject.com/resource-based-economy/human-factors/scientific-method/) forms the basis for decision making and resource management within your project. Could you explain how this approach is applied to social behavior? For example, what is the role of politics in The Venus Project?
RM: Today, for the most part, politicians serve the interest of those in positions of wealth and power; they are not there to change things, but instead to keep things as they are. With regard to the management of human affairs, what do they really know? Our problems are mostly technical. When you examine the vocations of politicians and ask what backgrounds they have to solve the pressing problems of today, they fall far short. For instance, are they trained in finding solutions to eliminating war, preventing climate change, developing clean sources of energy, maintaining higher yields of nutritious, non-contaminating food per acre or anything pertaining to the wellbeing of people and the protection of the environment? This is not their area of expertise. Then what are they doing in those positions?
The role for politics within the scientific and technologically organized society that The Venus Project proposes would be surpassed by engineered systems. It is not ethical people in government that we need but equal access to the necessities of life and those working toward the elimination of scarcity. We would use scientific scales of performance for measurement and allocation of resources so that human biases are left out of the equation. Within The Venus Project’s safe, energy-efficient cities, there would be interdisciplinary teams of knowledgeable people in different fields accompanied by cybernated systems that use “sensors” to monitor all aspects of society in order to provide real-time information supporting decision-making for the wellbeing of all people and the protection of the environment.
DA: In your view, is abundance simply a function of technological innovation? I mean, assuming we get the technology right, do you believe that we could eventually eliminate poverty and crime altogether?
RM: Yes, if we apply our scientists and technical personnel to work towards those ends. We have never mobilized many scientific disciplines giving them the problem of creating a society to end war, produce safe, clean transportation, eliminate booms and busts, poverty, homelessness, hunger, crime and aberrant behavior. For instance, one does not need to make laws to try and eliminate stealing, when all goods and services are available without a price tag. But scientists have not been asked to design a total systems approach to city design, let alone to planetary planning. Scientist have not been given the problem to develop and apply a total holistic effort using the methods of science, technology and resource management to serve all people equitably in the development of a safe and sustainable global society. Unfortunately, only in times of war, do we see resources allocated and scientists mobilized in this way.
DA: I assume schooling and education are important to Jacque’s vision. How might schools and universities differ from the way they are designed today?
RM: The education and values we are given seem to always support the established system we are raised in. We are not born with bigotry, envy, or hatred – we do pick them up from our schools and culture. In fact, even our facial expressions, the words we use, notions of good and bad, right and wrong, are all culture bound. A healthy brain can, in fact, simply become a Nazi faster in a Nazi society. It has no way of knowing what is significant or not, that is all learned by experience and background. The manipulation is so subtle that we feel our values come from within. Most often we don’t know whom our values are really serving.
Yes, education will differ considerably from that of today. As Fresco explains in his book The Best That Money Can’t Buy “The subjects studied will be related to the direction and needs of this new evolving culture. Students will be made aware of the symbiotic relationship between people, technology, and the environment.”
DA: I can only assume that critics routinely dismiss The Venus Project as a kind of hopeful utopia. How do you respond to that criticism?
RM: Critics very often reject or dismiss new ideas. What is utopian thinking is to believe that the system we are living under today will enable us to achieve sustainability, equality or a high standard of living for all when it is our system which generates these very problems in the first place. If we continue as we are, it seems to me that we are destined for calamity. The Venus Project is not offering a fixed notion as to how society should be. There are no final frontiers. It does offer a way out of our dilemmas to help initiate a next step in our social evolution.
Many are working at going to other planets to escape the problems on this one, but we would be taking our detrimental value systems with us. We are saying that we have to tackle the problems we face here on the most habitable planet we know of. We will have to apply methodologies to enable us to live together in accordance with the carrying capacity of Earth’s resources, eliminate artificial boundaries, share resources and learn to relate to one another and the environment.
What we have to ask is, what kind of world do we want to live in?
DA: My last question is about the challenges ahead. Rather than taking the necessary steps to reverse climate change (http://climate.nasa.gov/), we seem to be accelerating our pollution of the Earth. Socially, we are witnessing a renewed focus on nativism and fear. How might the values (https://www.thevenusproject.com/resource-based-economy/human-factors/values/) of The Venus Project manage against these negative tendencies in human beings?
RM: The notion of negative tendencies in human beings or that we possess a certain “human nature” is a scapegoat to keep things as they are. It’s implying that we are born with a fixed set of views regarding our action patterns. Human behavior is always changing, but there is no “human nature,” per se. Determining the conditions that generate certain behaviors is what needs to be understood.
As Jacque elaborates, “We are just as lawful as anything else in nature. What appears to be overlooked is the influence of culture upon our values, behavior, and our outlook. It is like studying plants apart from the fact that they consume radiant energy, nutrients, require water, carbon dioxide, gravity, nitrogen, etc. Plants do not grow of their own accord, neither do humans values and behavior.”
All social improvement, from the airplane to clean sources of energy undergoes change, but our social systems remain mostly static. The history of civilization is experimentation and modification. The Free Enterprise System was an important experiment and tremendous step along the way that generated innovation throughout our society. What we now advocate is to continue the process of social experimentation, as this system has long outlived its usefulness and simply cannot address the monumental problems it is facing today. We desperately need to update our social designs to correspond with our technological ability to create abundance for all. This could be the most exciting and fulfilling experiment we as a species could ever take on; working together cooperatively to deal with our most pressing problems which confront us all and finding solutions to them unencumbered with the artificial limitations we impose upon ourselves.

I have received so many letters over the years saying how much people have been inspired by Jacque Fresco. He helped them to better understand what was going on in the world, but most of all they expressed that he has given them hope by presenting an alternative society that we can all work towards to overcome the disastrous conditions that we face as a species. Therefore, it is very difficult to let you know that Jacque died peacefully on the morning of May 18, 2017 at 101 years of age. There were many close friends with him the last few days of his life. There was no funeral or ceremony held, and his body was donated to science as he requested.

Jacque was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Syndrome in recent years and this made his directorship and participation with The Venus Project more difficult. During this time, I became his full-time caregiver while furthering the work that we have accomplished together over the last 41 years. As the tours and seminars at our Research Center became harder for Jacque, I predominately carried them and will continue to do so. As co-founder of The Venus Project, I will now devote more of my time and energy toward carrying it forward as Jacque and I have always planned. Many others want to help bring this work into fruition and there is a very dedicated group of people who are doing just that.

The Venus Project will go on toward our aims and proposals, and as Jacque and I always say, "if you want a better world you have to work toward it. If you do nothing, nothing will happen". As I see it, we are fortunate to have the lifetime of Jacque Fresco’s work to provide a comprehensive direction to move toward; something that our world is arduously lacking and desperately needs. It has been touching to see the outpouring of appreciation and gratitude for Jacque and his life's work from all over the world. And while this is solemn news, it's heartening how many of you have expressed even greater determination to ensure that The Venus Project lives on through their efforts. Indeed, this is the only way it will. I will continue to do all that I can to ensure that the aims and proposals of The Venus Project proceed without interruption, and we welcome your participation. Though Jacque is no longer with us, the extensive work that he accomplished over his 101 years inspires and builds our resolve to bring forth his vision of world unification - a comprehensive, all-inclusive Resource-Based Economy.

In this month’s Newsletter, we announce a public call for legal consultation, give an update on the center in Venus, Florida, present a new exhibit that The Venus Project is a part of called“Future Cities”, share with you how to get involved, and we added several of our latest shareable materials from our Graphics Team.
















A Call for Legal Consulting


Operating within the legal and monetary world, The Venus Project has to ensure that it complies with all relevant laws and can protect itself, as well as make the most appropriate decisions about future developments.


We are now seeking volunteer legal professionals with relevant legal work experience. We also need professional guidance from those acquainted with NPO practices. This assistance is essential at this time as we expand into new areas. Update at the Center in Venus, Florida




We are also pleased to inform everyone that the center in Venus, Florida is almost back to normal following the aftermath of Hurricane Irma and we appreciate all of your comments of concern. Considering the cleanup that was required after the area’s flooding and considerable damage to the landscaping, we were considerably more fortunate than many who are still struggling. The Venus Project tours (https://www.thevenusproject.com/wp-content/plugins/civicrm/civicrm/extern/url.php?u=324&qid=742756) have also been resumed. Recognizing the potential for future storm threats to the hundreds of highly detailed models that we have on display here, we are now archiving them in more extensive detail. We now plan to rent a specialized camera to digitize them for 3D printing/duplication for any future needs that may arise.
















The Venus Project’s Latest Photo Display




One focus of The Venus Project is to introduce others to its objectives and direction. With up to 200,000 passengers per day, the main train station in Stuttgart, Germany is one of the busiest in the country. We are happy to share with you that many traversing through that train station are learning about The Venus Project through a large exhibit being held there now on “Future Cities”, which The Venus Project was asked to participate in. We had the opportunity to write adescription to accompany each photo, which is prominently displayed on them. The exhibit also includes an explanation of The Venus Project itself.

















Getting Involved


Humanity’s most pressing threats are proving to be monumental in scope and highly interconnected. For many, they are inescapable, producing an urgency to be addressed. But far too often, remediation efforts and expenses are directed toward their symptoms, rather than the root causes of the problems. Most people with the means to effect real change talk around the source, dealing only with the byproducts of our detrimental social system itself. The Venus Project not only regards themonetary system as the ultimate source of the unhealthy values and aberrant behaviors that we witness, but also poses a viable and attainable alternative. Given what’s at stake here, this requires the direct participation of many dedicated people.
